A Quick Question For You…

I promise I won’t make a habit of this but I have a quick question.

Sarah and I have our weekly podcast which (thanks to the input from you guys) is doing really well. Many of you have asked for it to happen more than once a week and we’ve now expanded from our Monday morning episode and have introduced the Thursday “on the road” series.

Our original Monday format seems to work: we pick a theme, we research the theme, we find articles on the theme and then we discuss the theme (yesterday’s expat sex episode was really good fun solely to see how red Sarah’s face became as the podcast went on). Our Thursday “on the road” is a bit of a work in progress. We’d like to interview an expat each week but we want to make sure we interview people you’d be interested in hearing from and that the conversation stays light yet relevant.

And this is where you come in. I’d like to know what you’d like to hear on that Thursday podcast. I have a few ideas myself but I’d thought I’d throw it out there for suggestions. One of my ideas is that the Thursday podcast can be a quick 10 minute interview with an expat about their expat life but then also via Skype we could have a conglomeration of stories with the one theme e.g.:

We were given two weeks to move to…

The worst house we lived in…

I was most scared as an expat when…

My partner came home and said…

I realised I had to go home when…

I got so sick when we lived in…

My children were happiest when we were living in…

The most hideous thing I hate at a work function was…

What do you think? Dumb idea? Would you be interviewed for a podcast? Who would you like to hear from? Do you have a story? Would you tell me?

One last thing. How many of you don’t know how to listen to a podcast? Would it help if I wrote a post with a quick tutorial? Or do you think it’s just not your thing? That was more than one question wasn’t it.

Okay, let me know, would you be interviewed for a podcast if it were just for a few minutes? What would you like to hear?

  1. I love this idea! Expats from other places than the ME (no offence intended!) to broaden your reach would be fab. I like both the interview and the random question format. More than happy to be interviewed, but may struggle for anything interesting to add.

  2. Yep love the idea and I also need a tutorial on how to listen to a podcast!

  3. God I am loving your podcasts and really love that you are now doing 2 a week!!! You guys crack me up. I love how you giggle at yourselves. Yes, you should do a tutorial as you would be surprised how many people don’t even know what a podcast is, I have been spreading the love and did a blog post about how to listen to them, wasn’t all that technical and have probably led people up the garden path, but it gave them some instruction. Keep up the great podcasts, love them.

  4. I’ve been enjoying your podcasts too. What fun! I really like your conversational style and the recommendations you give at the end for other podcasts, blogs, etc. I agree with KJ that it would be nice to broaden the reach outside the ME and maybe a non-Aussie perspective too once in a while. Interviews could be a good way to do that. Happy to be interviewed too. Topic or question-wise an episode about repatriating could be timely as many folks I know in Europe and Asia will be doing that in a couple of months.

  5. That sounds great,Kirsty. Love listening to your podcasts. Would be happy to give answers to any the above questions having lived in 4 countries in the last 24 years.

I’m a new follower and new to your podcasts – I wouldn’t mind a newby tutorial

  7. Great, will put a post together this afternoon. xx

  8. I agree, we’d love to hear some other accents in different locations. Thanks for the feedback. xx

  9. Excellent – each week we’ll throw the topic out on the Facebook page, I’d love to chat to you xx

  10. Excellent! Will put a tutorial together 🙂

  11. You would have OODLES to add. xx

  12. I love this idea too. As a returned expat (back to the UK) I would be happy to speak about our time away (in India) if of any help. I have subscribed to the podcast – I think it may be trickier for anyone who doesn’t have itunes so that might be worth explaining? I love reading your blogs and am excited about the podcast! x

  13. I’d love a quick tutorial. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has to ask their teenager how to do “techie” stuff!
