Before I die I want to…
I asked the children will varying amounts of success.
The girls (my first and second little travellers) didn’t like the question. The second threw her hands in the air and said “That’s too hard, I want to do EVERYTHING!” When you’re ten you still have a million years to live and you just know they’ll be time for everything. The first little traveller was on the final chapter of the third book in The Hunger Games series when I made the mistake of approaching her with my ridiculous eye roll inducing question. I left her to it.
I asked the fourth little traveller what he wanted to do before he died.
“I want to bungy jump from a helicopter that’s 10 miles high in the sky”
The third announced that he wanted to be a “heroic soldier”
The fourth traveller jumped in with “she said BEFORE you die not HOW are you going to die”.
I asked G over dinner
“I want to learn how to sail”.
For me, there’s lots of obvious ones. I’d like to finish my book, there are people on this planet who feel they may die before seeing this happen. *Waves to Carol the Editor*
I’d also like to live in New York for at least six months, no wait, twelve months. I’d like to have a business where I actually made something, something tangible that I could hold in my hand and say “wow, I made this”. As long as I didn’t have to go to work at 5.30am on a Saturday morning.

I’ve come across this before – but can’t begin to engage with all the things I’d like to do. Instead, I try to make sure I do all I can to make the most of every day – the thought of turning round when I’m eighty and saying, ‘I wish I’d done …’ – That was one of the motivators for me going round the world on my own in my 50s.
I agree Jo, rather than a bucket list write what you have done, rather than what you will do. If it all ended tomorrow, I’d be pretty happy with what’s come my way.
Don’t sell yourself short. A book is a tangible thing to create. Finish that book and you will make us all happy, including Carol, and you will also have something to hold in your hand. 🙂 Next stop: New York.
As for what I want to do, I’m with the second little traveler. I want to do it all! Living life, every day!

Lately I have thought about this a lot. Too much maybe. But I can say I have done most of the things I really really wanted to do. I just don’t want to die. Ever.
To be loved. I think that’s enough. I feel very blessed to have had that. I’m with you Claire, I don’t want to die either, I really wish I could find the stop or even the slow button to slow things down a bit. It’s all going to fast.
Carol the editor wants to hold your book in her hand–something you have made–before she dies!
I want to see as much of the world as possible before I die. Next week I will be in Spain and the week after that , Germany, Austria and Hungary. So I am working on it.
Before I die I want to go to New Orleans and write on the wall.
I think it’s more about what I want to be…consistently authentic and aware.
I was asked this question when I was 19. I said I want to have a child before I die.” 16 years on, and here they are! My four year old son and the little baby girl just born two months ago. I feel I’ve accomplished a lot. Much more than I did with my executive career before I finally got to meet my children. Now I feel rich! 🙂
