My mother was a city girl.
If there’s one story I heard when I was growing up, oh, let me see, perhaps three hundred and sixty thousand times? It was the story of my mothers first trip to Renmark. It’s not so much a story, but a moment. The moment when the bus made its way out of the city, and headed north to the top of Accommodation Hill, which is about an hour or so into what would have been a four hour journey.
“We came over the top of Accommodation Hill and there was just nothing, NOTHING! And I thought my lord, where am I going? There’s nothing here!”
“Now I can’t wait to get over the top of Accommodation Hill – it means I’m nearly home.”
I feel exactly the same way.

I can highly recommend the kitchener buns at the Renmark Patisserie. 🙂
Custard finger buns all the way for me!!
Those photos look like HOME to me x
I bought my first “good” camera in Renmark many years ago when we were at Barmera/Winkie area fruit picking and working at the Ardmona cannery. Was through there again this year in May. Lovely people and lovely memories. xo
I waitimpatiently for your post everyday & nearly always end up with a tear in my eye – Thanks x
Chicago is on the north east side of the great plains in the USA. My husband and son do the 1,000 mile drive to the Rockies in Colorado once a year (that’s the other side of the great plains) and send me photos throughout the day. Not only is there nothing, but it’s completely flat so you can literally see the nothing for tens of miles. Completely freaks this city girl out!
